How to play
Knights move in an L shape, pawns capture diagonally after moving straight, and the other pieces follow their own moves, all to checkmate the opponent's king. A game can also end in a draw: stalemate, threefold repetition, 50 moves without a capture or a pawn move, insufficient material to checkmate, or mutual agreement. Before the first move, pick how to play: online against other players, against the computer, or with a friend on the same screen. Against the computer you set a difficulty, a handicap and interactive hints, while a friend on the same screen takes a time control of Unlimited, Bullet, Blitz, Rapid or Classic. On a phone, the game plays in portrait only.
Tips
- Castling needs the king and the rook to be unmoved, no piece between them, the king not in check, and no attacked square crossed by the king.
- En passant is only possible right after your opponent moves a pawn two squares and lands beside yours.
- Made a mistake? The move undo function lets you take the move back and reconsider.
- Against the computer, interactive hints can be switched on to help you find a move.
- After a match, the analysis points out your mistakes and suggests other moves.
