There are markers in the remnants of the world. They represent missions (delivery/zombie cleanup), as well as other interactions (leaving/entering car, entering garage, accessing shop etc.) Simply enter them (inside car) and/or press interaction key (outside car) to start mission or do something else. You'll see further instructions in-game.
